Environmental Benefits
The Chem-Mod™ Solution offers immediate and widespread environmental benefits to coal-fired power plants through the introduction of new technology that will allow utilities to meet and exceed the EPA’s Clean Air Mercury standards.
The EPA’s Clean Air Mercury Rule (CAMR) requires coal-fired utilities to cap their mercury emissions at 38 tons by 2010 and 15 tons by 2018. The Chem-Mod™ Solution provides utilities an affordable and rapid way to surpass these emission guidelines today.
Chem-Mod’s emissions reduction system also offers the following additional environmental benefits:
1) Dramatically reduces mercury, sulfur, arsenic, other heavy metals, and chloride emissions from coal-fired power plants; Also removes elemental mercury from emissions, the most harmful form of mercury to humans, which is not achievable through the use of wet scrubbers;
2) Reduces landfill waste through the sale of high-quality, environmentally-safe fly ash for use in making concrete. Many companies currently deposit their fly ash at landfills due to its low quality and unsuitability for concrete production;
3) Reduces carbon dioxide emissions created by concrete production through the use of Chem-Mod’s fly ash as a partial replacement for Portland cement; and
4) Increases furnace efficiency at power plants leading to reduced amounts of coal burned through decreased slagging in the boiler tubes.
